How to Get a Proof of Satisfaction

No one is perfect and we all make mistakes that can lead to further problems. When it comes to parking tickets, tickets in judgment have the potential to cause lots of headaches. A ticket becomes “in judgment” after 100 days if it has not been paid or found “not guilty” after a dispute has been filed.

Too many tickets in judgment can lead to a host of problems:

  • Your vehicle is put on the boot/tow list if you owe more than $350 in tickets that are in judgment.
  • Three or more outstanding parking or camera violations in judgment within an 18-month period will result in a block on renewing your registration at the DMV.
  • Five or more outstanding parking tickets in judgment within a 12-month period is grounds for a registration suspension.
  • You cannot get a license from the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission if you owe any tickets, period, let alone in judgment.

If you run into any of the above roadblocks, you’ll need to pay off your judgment debt, and obtain a Proof of Satisfaction in most cases, to continue on your way. The fastest way to do this is at your nearest Department of Finance business center. Once obtained, you can take this proof to the appropriate department to get your car, registration, or license in your hands, so you can get back to your life.
