School Zone Speed Camera Tickets

One of the most common tickets that are disputed are school zone camera tickets. Sometimes, it seems like they exist just to drain you of your hard-earned money. The true reason, of course, is not quite so sinister.

School zone speed violations are the result of the City of New York’s Vision Zero program. This program exists in an effort to reduce the approximately 3000 City residents who are seriously injured and 200 who are killed each year as a result of vehicular accidents.

Being struck by a vehicle is the leading cause of injury-related death for children under 14, and the second leading cause for seniors.

You can learn more about Vision Zero here.

It’s also important to note that, during all of the changes that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought to our lives, some schools are still open as Meal Hubs and healthcare facilities, so please remain vigilant. Quiet streets are not an excuse to violate the speed limit.

That said, you can still be unfairly ticketed for a speed zone violation. How can you fight it if you are? Evidence proving the following can help your defense in a dispute against a school speed zone violation:

  • The ticket was issued outside of the enforceable time.
  • You are not the owner of the ticketed vehicle.
  • The camera was malfunctioning that day.
  • Your car was stolen and not in your possession at that time.
